Hot Child(ren) in the City

I definitely have to say that Nick and I got REALLY lucky with our apartment in New York. When we first started looking at places in our price range we prepared ourselves for the shoebox we would soon call home. After finding a few places we liked online, I reached out to a broker who would be help us with the apartment search. He was very helpful. He educated us about the market and what to expect when applying. Looking back on it, Nick and I both agree that we provided enough paperwork and information about ourselves to the management company that we could have bought a house.

One weekend in December we flew to New York for the ultimate search. We got up bright and early on Saturday morning and met with the realtor. He suggested to us to wear comfy shoes and I am so glad we did! We walked up and down the Upper West & East sides of Manhattan. I lost count after the first 6 or 7 apartments... but I think we looked at almost 20 different places.

Towards the end of the day one of the last places we looked at was at 85th & 2nd. As soon as we walked in the door we knew this was it. Hardwood floors, big bedroom, 3 closets... and one GIGANTIC kitchen! It was awesome. But I'll let you see for yourself!

We have been working hard to get our apartment set up these past two weeks. While Nick went to work everyday, I was able to unpack the items that we brought with us on the trip up. It wasn't much, but just enough to live on for the week before the rest of our stuff arrived. We got everything on Tuesday this week and just to give you an idea, here are some pictures of the mess.

A sea of boxes...

This was before they brought in the desk...

(while Nick got an education about the realty market in Long Island from the mover)

We are still in the midst of unpacking, but things are looking good. We have the furniture arranged and items are finding their way to their spots. We were fortunate that my Aunt Totty and cousin Lee came over on Tuesday to help me put away the kitchen items. It's been great to have them around. Once we have everything settled I'll share more pictures!
